How to Bake Pandesal?


Ingredients:

2 teaspoons of yeast
1 1/2 cups of warm water
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of shortening
4 1/2 cups of sifted bread flour
bread crumbs as needed


Instructions:
  1. Dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water.
  2. Combine the remaining water, sugar, salt and shortening in a bowl.
  3. Add 4 cups of the flour and the yeast mixture.
  4. Mix well then transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
  5. Use the remaining flour for dusting the table and your hands if the dough gets sticky.
  6. Place dough on a greased bowl, cover and let it rise until double in bulk.
  7. Place the risen dough on a floured surface.
  8. Flatten the dough with your hands to form a rectangle about 16x3 inches.
  9. Starting at one end, roll up the dough with the right hand while sealing with the left hand to form a cylindrical strip of dough.
  10. Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
  11. Let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
  12. Cut the dough into pieces of about 1 1/2 - inch thick.
  13. Place in baking sheets cut side up.
  14. Let it rise until light.
  15. Bake in a preheated 350*F oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
